IoW Rifles successes

On the 14th of July 1917  the Isle of Wight Rifles attacked a large Turkish trench position named "Beach Post".  The attack was successful with all the objectives being taken. The trench raid against Beach Post was regarded as a model of its kind, and earned the Battalion high praise, they captured a machine gun and two Lewis guns, as well as demolishing several dug-outs. The attack had been carried out at the point of the bayonet. One Sgt accounting for 13 Turks alone. The battalion also captured 19 prisoners and inflicted a further 60 casulties on the enemy.  Lt CW Brannon was awarded the Military Cross for his gallantrywhen leading his men in this attack.
